Programme Aims

This media production higher diploma emphasises creative thinking, video filming, and production. Designed for students aspiring to careers in film, television, and digital media, it provides comprehensive training from concept development to post-production, covering the entire digital imaging workflow. Students can master visual storytelling, scriptwriting, storyboarding, camera techniques, editing, sound mixing, and visual effects. 

Using industry-standard equipment and software, students gain practical experience through diverse projects. This programme also cultivates creative thinking, teamwork, and critical analysis, balancing theory and practice. 

Graduates are equipped for roles in film, advertising, and digital media, poised to capitalise on Hong Kong's thriving creative industries, whether pursuing further education, employment, or entrepreneurship.

Programme Contents

Higher Diploma in Creative Design and Media (Moving Image) is a video production and filming programme that blends theory and practice. It focuses on developing video producers capable of managing a media project from concept to completion, mastering video production techniques, and ensuring product quality. This programme strengthens students' critical thinking and teamwork through practical experience, laying a solid foundation for their future careers in film and video production. The curriculum also emphasises creative thinking, aesthetic sensibility, filming, and editing to ensure practical proficiency.

  • Professional Equipment: HKCT provides professional moving-image filming and post-production equipment such as high definition production studio, audio booth, outside broadcasting facilities, aerial filming drone quadcopter and 3 axis gimbals stabiliser.
  • Industry Networking: Professional talks and seminars by experienced practitioners in the industry will be arranged.
  • Diverse Opportunities: Students can enhance their practical skills and accumulate media production experiences through practical exercises and experiential learning activities
  • Software at Industrial Level: This programme includes different industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Animate, Dreamweaver, etc.
  • No Examinations: Students are assessed by professional practice and project assignments.
  • Career Oriented: This comprehensive, career-oriented digital media programme emphasises practical application and applied learning, providing students with extensive opportunities to use professional equipment and software.
  • Small Class Teaching: Lectures are conducted in small class size, students could receive more individual attention.
  • Membership Recognition: Students are eligible to apply for student membership of Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA)

Entry Requirements
  1. Attained Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects1, including Chinese Language2 and English Language, and the performance in Applied Learning subjects would be considered on a case-by-case basis; or
  2. Pass in 1 A-Level or 2 AS-Level subjects in HKALE; and 5 passes in HKCEE including Chinese Language and English Language; or 
  3. Holder of Diploma of Applied Education / Diploma Yi Jin; or
  4. Holder of Diploma and 
    - in the relevant discipline at QF Level 3 with a total learning size of normally 150 QF Credits; and 
    - learning contents covering Chinese and English Languages; or
  5. Aged 21 or above with 1 year working experience; or 
  6. Equivalent qualifications; 
    AND 
  7. Pass the admission interview. 

1 With effective from 2024/25, 'Attained' in 'Citizenship and Social Development' (equivalent to 'Level 2' for the HKDSE subject 'Liberal Studies' before 2024/25), or the attainment of 'Level 2' in Mathematics Extended Part (Module 1 or Module 2) is also recognised as meeting the general entry requirements.
2 'Attained' level of Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is accepted as Chinese Language qualification for the admission, but it is not considered as an elective subject.

Digital Media Studio

Digital Media Studio
This is a high-definition video production and recording studio with a control room. It adopts a tapeless full HD video camera, which can provide high- definition signals for live TV broadcast and rebroadcast through industry- standard HD-SDI that is comparable to local TV stations. Students of video filming and production programme can engage in diverse programme production practice here, such as talk shows and interviews. They can utilise chroma key technology via the blue or green background for adding special effects in post-production.

Audio Dubbing Room
Audio Dubbing Studio

Dubbing and mixing are common post-production processes in film and television production. This Audio Dubbing Studio, equipped with various mixing and recording equipment, soundproofing room, and industry-standard Audio Pro software, allows media production programme students to practice narration, sound mixing and multi-channel recording during their study.

Visual Imaging Studio

Visual Imaging Studio
This studio is equipped with Sony A7S III full-frame mirrorless cameras, boasting ultra-high ISO sensitivity, as well as professional Sony FX6 cinema cameras capable of 4K 120p cinematic shooting. These are complemented by a comprehensive professional sound recording system, wireless microphone sets, and mixers. Professional lighting equipment includes LED fill light sets, softboxes, soft umbrellas, cinematic lighting kits, and a professional background stand (9ft x 4ft), along with a three-axis stabiliser. The studio features a complete lighting control system, ensuring that design and digital media programme students can create all types of visual content in the most professional environment.

This programme is subsidised under Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). In the 2025/26 academic year, a subsidy of up to $40,730 per academic year will be provided to each eligible local student admitted to this laboratory-based programme. The first-year tuition fee after subsidy is $17,270. HKCT offers the lowest tuition fee after deduction of SSSDP maximum subsidy when comparing with other institutions’ higher diploma programmes in the same discipline. Please note that only local students* are eligible for the relevant subsidy.
